The idea
When the Phoenix Contact France teams reached out to us in September 2020, their concept was clear: they wanted to showcase their company’s expertise and create a “wow” effect for everyone visiting their brand-new building. And as a cherry on top: if it were possible to understand what interests the visitors so they could be contacted later, the platform would be complete. Challenge accepted!
The execution
To create such a product, we divided it into 4 main phases:
1/4 Functional and technical scoping
Writing the tour script: Based on the brief provided by the client, we collaboratively planned how a typical tour would unfold. To achieve this, we visited the site to understand the building's layout, see the products firsthand, and discuss with the client.
Technical solution research: Once the tour script was drafted, we entered a phase of researching technical solutions to build the platform. Each point of interest had its own complexity, requiring a blend of interactions with sensors, 3D elements, augmented reality, and pure web technologies.
Creation of a functional and technical specification document: We then drafted and detailed a Trello board with a precise and methodical breakdown of each feature of the platform. This breakdown into tickets (known as "user stories") would later enable our development teams to build the platform.
2/4 Graphic mockup
Mid-Fidelity Wireframes : Based on the specifications document, we created wireframes. In short, this is the stage where the design teams study user behavior (UX) and create "blueprints for the house."
High-Fidelity Prototype : Once the wireframes were finalized, we moved on to the "paint job." This is the stage where the project comes to life. Using Figma, we created interactive prototypes of the platform to get a sense of the visual outcome.

3/4 Web development and server setup
And we're off! With the created elements in place, it was time to tackle the development of the platform.
After a series of two-week iterations, the client was able to launch their platform online and conduct their first immersive tour.

4/4 Maintenance
Once the platform was online and used at the Phoenix Contact premises, we were able to proceed with its stabilization and ongoing improvements.
The solution
The envisioned web product was designed to operate on tablets and provide a fully immersive experience for visitors. When a new group of visitors arrives at the Phoenix Contact France premises, they are each given a tablet by a guide. The guide is also equipped with a tablet that allows them to control the tour.
Throughout the 10 points of interest distributed across the site, visitors have the opportunity to witness the company’s expertise. Each point of interest has its own unique features: 3D product visualizations, augmented reality immersion to showcase certain products, interactions with sensors and Phoenix Contact hardware, camera views, visitor-triggered actions to interact with the building, lighting control in specific rooms, and more.
