The first contact
Our first discussions with the Bernardaud teams took place in September 2020. Thanks to this first contact, we understood that they were looking for a web agency to support their developer teams and help them maintain the site and optimize performance. , make version updates and develop new core features, such as a brand new payment system on their Japanese e-commerce.
We immediately got the flow, thanks to the welcome we received from Claire Bérard (Digital Director) and Clément Mignon (CTO).

1/5 Building the team
When starting the project, we had to join an existing team composed of a lead developer and a Ruby on Rails backend developer. We were ready to make every effort to understand their business and support them in their next technical milestones to develop their digital product. A member of our team, a specialist in Ruby on Rails backend development, was integrated to cover the first technical issues.
2/5 Kickoff
Thanks to a kick-off meeting, the Bernardaud teams presented their processes in place to us and made an overall presentation of their platform. We agreed on a flexible operation: several development iterations every month, during which we could process requests as they were pushed to us by the Bernardaud team, and thus be able to easily enter the project. At the end of the first iteration, we were able to deliver our first features to the lead dev so that he could test them in a test environment.
3/5 Changes and fluctuations in workload
Since its beginnings, the project has encountered fluctuating needs (accelerations and slowdowns) and developments in our client's technical teams. We supported these fluctuations in the technical team’s load, with complete flexibility. The Bernardaud technical teams have evolved over time, and as a result, we have adapted to reach a larger size: a lead developer and 2 developers.
4/5 The lead developer: the point of contact between Bernardaud and Kinoba
Throughout the project, we defined a single contact for the client. François, our lead developer, was the entry point for information for the client and had the role of distributing tasks within our teams. He is also the one who integrates new members of our team in the event of an increase in workload, thus allowing the Bernardaud teams to concentrate on the essentials.
5/5 Tools
To facilitate communication and track progress, we use two main tools:
- Trello : A tool for centralizing documentation and the ticket board. It is also through Notion that the client can monitor the progress of all developers' work.
- Slack : A communication tool for all team members. This is where discussions are centralized: exchanges about features, scheduling meetings, complex technical topics, etc. This does not preclude organizing informal video meetings when necessary!
And today?
Since 2020, we have been supporting this family business in its significant technical challenges. Today, 3 members of the Kinoba team are working to continue improving the e-commerce site, to allow individuals or businesses to order porcelain products of unrivaled quality online.
